Yeah, I couldn't resist using a hyperbolic heading for today's entry. Not after reading the article over at Newsarama about the growing presence and influence of women in fandom.
Um. Growing presence and influence?
If Hollywood and the media are just tweaking to the fact that there are geeks of the female variety, well, they just aren't that bright are they?
What I find personally sad about the articles in question is that this 'revelation' seems to be based largely on audience data for Twilight. So you know what that means, ladies? You can expect a bunch of crappy 'paranormal romance' films aimed specifically at you, featuring broody, misunderstood vampires who only need the love of a good woman to redeem them.
Basically, you can expect crap stories with crap special effects. Want to bet that someone, somewhere in Tinseltown is already thinking of franchising the dreadful Anita Blake books?
Needless to say, y'all have my sympathy. - MEL
