Haven't written about comics in a while, so thought I'd share some thoughts on what I got this week.
Blackest Night: Suicide Squad #67. Okay, I'm irritated that DC decided to drag Secret Six into the Blackest Night crossoverpalooza, but at least the setup made sense. On an unrelated note, could someone please kill Amanda Waller already? She's really getting on my nerves. And while they're at it, could they finally get rid of Checkmate once and for all?
BPRD: King of Fear #1. A new story arc for the BPRD, following up on the disastrous events in Berlin and the final confrontation with Memnan Saa. The Pentagon is giving a big fuck you to the BPRD, while Kate Spencer gets a lot of quality screen time accompanied by the ghost of Lobster Johnson.
Cinderella #3. So, Cindy and Aladdin get horizontal and the mysterious source of the contraband magic goods is revealed and no one with a single brain cell at all is surprised. Predictable story so far, but better by leagues than the execrable Jack of Fables.
Echo #18. Sometimes I think Terry Moore is the Anti-Dave Sims. Seriously, Moore tends to put his female characters on a pedestal, even the villains, while the male characters are presented as chauvinistic villains or good-natured buffoons. This predisposition of his is actually getting a bit trite. That said, Echo #18 moves the plot along, albeit at a glacial pace. If things don't pick up soon, though, I'm dropping this book.
Proof #25. Pretty cool. The first story shows what's happening at the preserve a year in the future and is generally annoying. The second story, involving a bear-shirt wearing shapeshifter, was much more satisfying.
Sweet Tooth #5. So, Mr. Jeapord gets Gus to the Preserve, the first story arc ends in the manner we all saw coming and the previews for the next arc look kind of ghastly. I'd like to keep supporting this book, but, honestly, I don't know if I've got the strength.
