Barbie

I went and saw the Barbie movie today.
I thought Margot Robbie was excellent.
I was surprised that Rhea Perlman was still alive.
I thought Will Farrell was completely superfluous (a living manifestation of Ken, if you will).
And, ultimately, I did not think the movie was very good.
This movie is definitely female-oriented (It's Barbie. Big shock.), but they tried to address far too many serious topics, and it was NOT very funny.
If you go into this movie expecting comedy, you aren't going to get it. And the poignant scenes are handled so heavy-handed, telegraphed from so far away, they don't have any real punch.
Also, the ending joke just made me shake my head and sigh.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I would have to give Barbie a one. It's just not worth seeing in the theater or paying for it on-stream.
Your mileage may vary.

Tonight, I've been in a sci-fi mood so I watched Battle Angel Alita and Bounty Killers. About the only thing they have in common, besides being sci-fi, is that they're both set in dystopian worlds that survived wars. The first, based on the anime,is more high-tech, of course, with advanced cybernetics and floating cities, while the later is more grim and gritty, with lots of exploding heads and such.
They're both fun movies, and I enjoyed them, although it would be nice if someone did a sci-fi movie, set in a utopian future, where eveything turns out okay.
It would be a nice change of pace, at least.

I went and saw Antman & the Wasp: Quantamania this afternoon. It was okay, what I would consider a Saturday Matinee movie. I would not pay full price to see it, but it was entertaining enough. Paul Rudd still has all the emotional range of a boiled potato, but he was servicable in this, as was the rest of the cast. Kang felt like a one-note villain, all sturm and drang. We'll have to see how he progresses through the rest of Phase V.
Overall, I'd give the movie 3 out of 5 stars.

Tonight, for the first time in about a year and a half, I went to the movies.
It felt nice. Odd, but nice. Like normality is a bit closer now than it was a month ago.
I saw Black Widow. It was a pretty good movie. There were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming and, for a movie featuring Russian characters, the humor didn't feel very Russian. Not to me at least.
But it was still an enjoyable movie.
Perhaps, too enjoyable.
While there I decided to indulge and got a big popcorn and a diet soda. Which pretty much knocked me out of the park, calorically. So, not good.
With that in mind, I have decided today will be a Free Day and I will not take a Free Day this coming Tuesday.
That way, things will balance out.
Right?
Right.
Anyway, I hope everyone has had a nice night.

Saw Spider-Man:Far From Home tonight. It was . . . good? I guess. I don't know. It felt a bit flat to me and even though I like Tom Holland, I felt like he just didn't have a lot to work with here.

After the movie I came home and had half the beans, warmed on the oven with a generous dollop of butter. I shared them with J, then ate a banana.

I figure I've only had about 1000 cals today, which is a bit below my daily goal of 1500/1900.

Tomorrow is my weigh-in day. Hoping to see some progress on the scale, but after some pretty consistent weight loss I won't be surprised if there isn't any.

Or if I've taken a step back. This past week has been binge-worthy.

Today started off slowly. I woke up, dinked around on the computer for a while, then took a shower and left the house. I got a haircut and the oil in my car changed, then I went and saw The Mummy.
That's where my day started to go a bit lopsided.
I stopped by the concession stand, intending to get a bottle of water or something, but wound up buying a small Cherry Coke. As in movie-small, which means it was a small tub of soda. *sigh* So much for keeping it under 40 carbs. :/
Then, the movie started thirty minutes late because of technical issues. Eventually, it did start and we did get to see it in its entirety. It wasn't a bad movie, but it was deeply flawed. Not scary at all or, really, very exciting. I'd give it 2/5; wait for it come out on Netflix or On-Demand.
After that, I went by my grocery store to get supper and discovered they are switching up a lot of their brands. A lot of the brands I like to buy have disappeared from the shelves, replaced by more expensive and less Keto-friendly products. I'm a bit miffed about that and am thinking I may have to start shopping at another store. Maybe even (God help me) Wal-Mart.
So, home now, where I have eaten some sausage links with a little green salad. I smothered that salad in ranch dressing and added fried porkskin as faux crutons, then added a couple of hard-boiled eggs. It was a good supper, but I can tell that the caffeine and carbs from this afternoon are having an effect.
I'm craving carbs and sugar. I want to go out and buy a big bag of red seedless grapes and just devour them all. I want to get a two-liter Cherry Coke and suck that baby dry. I want a frosted honey bun.
I don't have any of that, though. What I've got are some peanuts and a cup of chicken flavored bullion broth. That'll just have to do.
