So, this past week I didn't eat any meat. I'm rather proud of that, as I thought I would have cravings and succumb, but that didn't happen. I did have some craving for chicken near the end of the week, but overall I was just fine.
I tried to go meatless for a couple of weeks last year and it didn't work out. I quit after the first week, as I felt listless, hungry and felt mentally foggy. This time, I didn't have any of that. I felt full and satified, with no mental fog. I think, this time 'round, I was getting more calories and making sure I got enough protein. Also, I think I did more dairy this time around (chocolate milk anyone?) and so may not have been suffering from a b12 deficiency.
Overall, it was a pretty decent week. I didn't eat some of the stuff I thought I'd eat, like 4-cheese pizza, PB&J sandwiches, oatmeal, waffles, etc. I did have one day where I ate nothing but trash(soda, chips, cookies) but that was the exception. Most of the time, I was eating things like rice, beans, stir fry veggies, bananas, grapes. I did eat some snacky stuff: organic yellow corn chips, oatmeal raisin cookies, pecan twirls. But, overall, food quality was pretty good.
All that said, I couldn't commit to vegetarianism full time. I certainly couldn't become a vegan. I think, however, I could do the flexetarian thing, where you only eat meat on certain days of the week. That would be interesting, and I may give it a whirl.
But today, it's my Free Day, and I've had a baconator combo from Wendy's, a bottle of wine and a box of Cheez Its.

Free Day.
Yeah. Learned my lesson last week. Eating fairly light today.
Tomorrow?
I don't know. We shall see.

Ah.
So, this past week I did a high fat diet (122g of fat per day), and it felt weirdly decadent to be buying pork sausage instead of turkey. I was a bit concerned about how it would impact my skin and my digestive process, but no problems there. Actually, I could probably use a bit more roughage, to be honest.
This week, I'm just going to count calories. I'm going to ignore macros and just eat whatever I want. After the last few weeks of macrocentric diets, that'll feel a bit weird, but in a good way.
Like peeling warm wax off of skin.
Anyway, cals are staying the same: 2200 per day, 13200 per week.
Looking forward to it.

I took my friend Paul out forlunch today as a belated birthday present. So I decided that today would be another Free Day.
So after I took him out to lunch, I came home and had some B&J Cherry Garcia icecream and a big ass bottle of wine that I have yet to finish.
Tomorrow, we diet.
HAHAHA!
I am funny because I am tipsy!
Anywho, starting tomorrow I shall be doing low-carb for the rest of the week.
110g of carbs a day. No more.
Yay.
Bring on the sausage!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to finish this giant bottle of wine.

So, today was my official Free Day.
Tomorrow, I am back on track.
I think I've finally got my blasted foot under control. I've been icing it, using anti-inflamatory CBD creams, doing stretches, wearing my good shoes and trying to stay off of it as much as possible. It's still not at 100%, but it's much better.
I was planning on starting to walk again this month, but now I think I may push that back to September. At the very least, it'll probably be cooler.
This coming week, I haven't decided what sort of diet I'm going to do.
I've been doing low-fat the last two weeks so I feel like I should switch it up and do low-carb this week? But I haven't decided. Maybe I'll just count calories.
Tomorrow, I'm taking my friend Paul out for a belated birthday lunch at San Jose's. Mexican food isn't very low carb, so I might just wait until Thursday to start the new diet.
I'll play it by ear.
Also, I'm thinking I might tell him that I want to ditch Game Night on Sunday because I'm just not enjoying it. I just don't want to be around people right now.

Today has been a weird day. I woke up and went to the drug store where I bought a reuseable cold pack and some ibuprofin, to add to my foot healing regiment. Then I went by the grocery store where I bought a packet of cashews, a slice of carrot cake and a bottle of chocolate milk. Afterwards, I came home, iced the coldpack, played with Shadowpup, and chilled out in the bedroom. I've put the coldpack on my foot twice today and it seems to have helped. Although it could be the ibuprofin.
I'm not actually hungry right now, but I feel like I should go out and get something to eat, like a burger or something, because I will probably be hungry in a few hours.
Maybe.
I don't know.
Like I said, it's been a weird day.

It's 90 degrees outside right now, so it doesn't really feel like autumn. Nevertheless, today is Lughnasadh, or Lammas, the first of the fall harvest festivals. I'm working at the Store today and gaming tonight, so I won't be able to do a proper thanksgiving ritual until tomorrow, but later today I will be celebrating with some alcoholic beverages and possibly some snacks.
Most people associate Lughnasadh/Lammas with bread, so drinking beer is a fine way to celebrate. But people tend to forget that corn is also harvested at this time of the year, so if you're not into baking bread (or are just really bad at it, like some of us) it's perfectly acceptable to pop some popcorn. :)
Anyway, happy holiday to those that celebrate it.

Tonight, I decided to try Keto Icecream. That's the actual brand name. Very on the nose.
The only reason I tried it was because it was on sale and I was curious.
After about three spoonfuls, I knew I had made an AWFUL mistake. It's got a weird texture and a weird chemical aftertaste and no thank you, I am done.
I'm going to let it melt and then I'm going to pour it down the toilet.
It's so bad, I'm not even going to feed it to the dog.
Cannot recommend.
Waiting in the wings, however, are some beef brats and a bag of chips.
Fuck it.
Let the food bachanalia begin!!!

Today it was over 100 degrees here. At the moment, I'm sitting in front of my box fan, practically naked, as I type this.
It feels lovely.
I would open my bedroom door and let some cool air in, but that would be a signal to Shadowpup that I wanted to go outside and play. And it's too damn hot to play ball.
Anyway....
* * * * *
Today I have eaten:
3 strawberry munchkins from Dunkin Donut
1 Brisk Lemonade
1 Original Chicken Sandwich meal from Burger King
1 Large Sweet tea
1 container of chicken salad
1 bag of corn chips
1 can of green tea
* * * * *
Yeah, this has probably been my worst day this week as far as cals and food quality go. But I can't say I feel too bad about it. *shrug*
Anyway, I've decided that I might as well do Free Days until Wednesday.
Sunday is the 1st of August and Lammas/Lughnasad, so I wouldn't be dieting anyway. So I'll just jump back on the train this Wednesday.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go pour some cold water over my head.

So, still doing the Free Days for the rest of this month. And,hell, I might just continue them until this coming Wednesday.
* * * * *
Today I ate:
1 can of golden kernel corn
1 can of sugar peas
1 package of roast chicken
1 container of Cookies n Cream Icecream
2 peaches
* * * * *
This wasn't a bad day as far as food goes. The icecream was the 'worst' thing that I ate, and, honestly, I don't regret eating it at all. I needed something sweet. I just wish those peaches had been sweeter. They were kind of bland.

It's super-hot here this week. Today, it was 95 degrees and we had a heat index of 100. Tomorrow, it's supposed to feel even hotter.
For that reason, I went out and got my head shaved today. I was going to get it done next week some time, for Lammas, but there's no time like the present.
Also, I saw the Snake Eyes movie today. It was sort of a boring action movie. I'd say wait for it to come to the small screen if you want to see it.
I'm taking the rest of the month off of my diet, but I'm still going to track what I ate. Sorry if that's annoying.
* * * * *
Today, I ate:
1 small serving of Peach Icecream
1 medium movie popcorn w/butter
2 Brisk ice teas.
* * * * *
I finished off the chicken I got yesterday. This is the first breaded chicken I've had in a while and it was gross. Not sure why. I think I might have just got a bad batch.
It's 1030 now and I'm not exactly hungry, but I feel like I could eat something.
Still no soda. Yay!

So, I did pretty well on my low fat diet this past week. At least, the days that I was dieting. However, I've decided that I'm going to take the rest of the month off from my diet.
Why?
Well, why not?
This weekend is Lammas, or Lughnasadh, and I don't diet on holidays anyway. So, to hell with it.
That said, I'm probably not going to go out and eat cake or anything.
Well, probably not.
We'll have to wait and see.
:)

I know I said I wasn't going to take today as a Free Day because of my movie night last Thursday, but it's been a good day and I felt like celebrating.
I got the broken window fixed.
I made some progress on a writing project.
So I decided to have a big ass bottle of wine, some chips and some chicken nuggets.
I can't really say that I regret it.
This coming week, starting tomorrow, my cals are at 2200 and I'm switching things up a bit, saying goodbye to the low-carb diet, and returning to a low-fat diet.
* * * * *
Tonight, I watched American Ultra, probably the only movie with Jesse Eisenberg or Kristen Stewart in it that I consider worth watching. They're both one-note actors, but at least they're entertaining in this movie.
melworks: (Default)
Tonight, for the first time in about a year and a half, I went to the movies.
It felt nice. Odd, but nice. Like normality is a bit closer now than it was a month ago.
I saw Black Widow. It was a pretty good movie. There were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming and, for a movie featuring Russian characters, the humor didn't feel very Russian. Not to me at least.
But it was still an enjoyable movie.
Perhaps, too enjoyable.
While there I decided to indulge and got a big popcorn and a diet soda. Which pretty much knocked me out of the park, calorically. So, not good.
With that in mind, I have decided today will be a Free Day and I will not take a Free Day this coming Tuesday.
That way, things will balance out.
Right?
Right.
Anyway, I hope everyone has had a nice night.

I'm going back to my old entry format here, where I keep track of my daily cals. It seems to work best for me. Apologies if it bores anyone, but I'm trying to get back on track.

With that in mind:
I'm setting my daily cals this week at 2200.
I'm going to try and do less carbs this week because I've got some serious carb-brain going on.
Also, I really do need to start walking again.
I should probably do that right now.
Or go to the mall and walk around that.
Hmmm.
Wish me luck, folks.
Later!

I feel like crap tonight and I've felt all blah this past week.
Diet did not go well. Pretty sure I went over my calories and I definitely did not eat well.
Nothing for it, but to get back on the horse. Right?
Pheh.
Anyway, this week, I'm doing 2200 cals per day.
Giving up soda too.

Free Day!

It's June 1st and I am assessing and reassessing my diet/lifestyle practices for the coming month.
I've been doing 2400 cals for a while now and I think I'm going to drop my daily cals to 2200 a day.
I think it's time.
Also, I think I might start alternating between low-carb and low-fat weeks.
I remain undecided on that.
Anyway, May had some rough spots but overall, I'd say it was a success. And this month, it'll be two years since I started actively trying to improve my health via diet/lifestyle choices.
Hurrah for me, for sticking to it for two years!

It's been a long day,so I'm switching out Monday's holiday with today.

So, I'm gong to a birthday party this evening, so today will be a Free Day.
Because there will be cake.
And I am NOT counting calories if there is Cake.

May Day

Today we had an event at the Store; it involved 10 local artists painting murals outside, vendors in the parking lot selling various wares, two food trucks(Yum!) and live music. The event was done to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish charity and it went off without a hitch.

I can't think of a better way to start the merry month of May.

Well, maybe something that doesn't involve me standing on my feet for 9+ hours, but that's just a little gripe.

I hope all of you had a fine May Day.
