Today is the beginning of the Chinese New Year, Year of the Tiger.
It is also Valentine's Day and Single Pride Day.
For me, the day has not started auspiciously.
I woke up this morning, turned to my bedside clock and saw that it was 8:00 A.M.
"No," I said, denying the evidence of my own eyes.
I squinted at the clock, expecting the digital numbers to resolve themselves into their real configuration. But they remained stubbornly fixed at 0800.
Swearing, I rolled out of bed and hurried to my living room. I called in to work, to find Coworker Shirley more amused by the situation than anything else.
"I'm here until 9:00 anyway," she said. "So take your time."
I didn't.
I flew through a shower, shoved my teeth into my head, pulled on some clothes and leadfooted it into town.
If there had been any police on my route, I'm pretty sure they would have pulled me over for speeding.
As it is, I got into work a half hour late.
Not the best way to start the Year of the Tiger.
Although, I suppose getting more sleep than one needs is very feline.
Right?
