So, this weekend marked the beginning of Fur Rondy.
Fur Rondy is a big winter carnival held every year, here in Anchorage. It's origins are connected to the time when the trappers would come to the city, to sell their furs.
Nowadays, of course, it's more like a colder version of Mardi Gras, without as much public nudity. Also, there are things like the Outhouse Race(you have to see it to believe it) and the Reindeer Run(an Alaskan version of the running of the bulls, only lamer).
Generally, I don't do much during Rondy. When I lived downtown I couldn't stand it, 'cause they blocked off one end of my street for the start of the Iditarod. It was terribly inconvenient.
Today, at the Job of Doom, a bunch of folks are getting together for a hot dog dinner, before they put on fake antlers and wander over to participate in the Reindeer Run.
I shall be exposed to children and spouses.
God help us all.
More later. - MEL
