Was chatting with
kerithwyn the other day re The Scarlet Age, kind of spitballing stuff. Thought I'd share some of it here and see what people think.
Scott Summers: Agent of SHIELD - the more I think about this, the more I like it. I mean, Cyclops is regarded as one of the world's formost tacticians, on par with Captain America. It would be a shame to let all of that experience and skill go to waste. Plus, there is the added bonus of writing Scott as a kind of International Man of Mystery, shagging his way across the war-torn world.
Nightcrawler - when the Scarlet Witch's whammy hit, mutants who developed their powers post-birth would revert to ordinary looking humans. Angel, for example, would lose his wings. I'm not sure about his hollow bones and other physical adaptations. But mutants like Nightcrawler, who were born with physical mutations, would not magically transform into ordinary looking people. Kurt would lose his teleporting ability, but would still be a world-class gymnast and combatant. I see two possibilities for Nightcrawler: (1)he takes over the Xavier Institute and turns it into a school/shelter for mutants like himself who can't blend in with ordinary society and (2)joining the Avengers. Actually, the two could kind of work together. Nightcrawler would be the perfect example to show the world that just because someone's not 'normal' looking, they aren't monsters.
Civil War - Did it happen? Part of me wants to go "No." But, really, I think it happened. The loss of mutants wouldn't have had any noticable impact on events, would it? I didn't buy any of the issues, so I'm not sure.
World War Hulk - Definitely happened, and is a major point of diversion. This Hulk was really pissed. He took lives and crossed the line, becoming a real monster. He broke the Eastern Seaboard and went through most of the Illuminati like a hot knife through butter. Then the government dropped a bomb on New York, sacrificing the city to eliminate the Hulk and his alien allies. It worked, but no one's certain if the Hulk really died or if he just vanished. In the current world, the Hulk is sort of a bogeyman, a gamma-spawned sasquatch appearing in questionable photos.
Secret Invasion - I haven't made up my mind if this will happen or not. Honestly, I'm leaning more towards, no. It's just too damn confusing and, once again, I'm not really keeping up with what's going on in the cannon.
The Scarlet Witch - dead; committed suicide after depowering the world's mutants.
Quicksilver - dead; Wanda never reanimated him; without Quicksilver the whole Inhumans vs. America thing never happened.
Magneto - alive; depowered; in prison? I'm undecided.
Storm/Black Panther - when did they get married? prior to M-Day? or after. Not sure. Need to do more research.
Doctor Doom - badass; the Doctor I write will never tell anyone to, "Shut your cow mouth!" Pheh.
Wolverine - dead after being depowered; thanks Rith!
Tony Stark - dead and reviled; 'The Most Hated Man in America'.
Fantastic Four - disbanded; pretty sure there are survivors; I have a list at home.
The Initiative - a spectacular failure; most of its people died during the Hulkwar; survivors were scattered and in disarray; government cut off support, rerouting it to more conventional uses.
The world - post apocalyptic is a good word; M-Day was the start of the end; northeastern USA and southeastern Canada turned into No Mans Land by the Hulkwar; Europe is on fire; China is sealing itself off; Australia too; USA is fragmented; South America, India and the Middle East largely unaffected environmentally, but experiencing economic/social upheavals.
Timeline - not sure; could write it as contemporary AU or could write it set in future AU. Both are attractive, but contemporary AU might be easier for readers to relate to. On the other hand, future AU would give me more room to move.
