I could never really get into the Harry Potter books. They seemed full of empty language and repetitive scenes. Thankfully, the movies came out and I was able to enjoy the world that J.K. Rowling created.
That said, I'm not sure I can recommend HP&TDH1 because it is two hours of grim angst among lovely scenery. And, angst is so not my thing.
I will say that this movie has done a wonderful job of portraying the titular hero on the run, and the trying emotional circumstances that he and his friends find themselves in. Perhaps too well.
I can't really say that I enjoyed this movie.
I certainly don't want to go and see it again.
But, on the other hand, I am looking forward the final installment in the series.
Bearing all of that in mind, gentle readers, you may be surprised that I am giving Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 1 a 7 on the scale of Melworks Movie Love.
It's not an easy movie to sit through and I wouldn't recommend taking little kids to see it, but overall it's a fine piece of work, worth repeat viewing by the hardcore fans.
