Went and saw PoTC:On Stranger Tides today at the theater in the next town over. In future, I shall be making the trip to the local AMC in the next-next town over. Hopefully they'll have a better sound system and more comfortable seats. So, with that in mind, let's get on to the movie review.
PoTC: On Stranger Tides is a standalone tale, recounting Capt. Jack Sparrow's quest for the legendary Fountain of Youth. In this movie, we have the return of a couple of characters from the previous trilogy (Mister Gibbs and Captain Barbarosa), but everyone else is pretty much new. The villain of the piece, Blackbeard, was a bit overdone in my opinion, and the whole mermaid/missionary subplot felt extraneous.
That said, I'd have to give PoTC: On Stranger Tides a solid 5 out of 10 on the Melworks Scale of Movie Love. I think it'd be worth paying full price for a date night, but don't think I'd recommend seeing it again. Not at full price.
