Random Thoughts
Jun. 10th, 2011 01:16 pmI got the air conditioner in my car fixed this morning. It wasn't working because of a bad hose, which may have been busted for who knows how long since I never used the air conditioner the entire time I was in Alaska. But now it's working and my car is deliciously cool. It's like riding in a lovely, red freezer on wheels.
Which, I'll admit, will come in handy since I seem to be making an inordinate amount of road trips to Columbia lately. Went to a temp office up there earlier this week to register. While I was there, I stopped by my very first comic shop, Silver City, in Cayce.
Ah! The heady buzz of nostalgia! Only, not really. Because the Silver City I went to isn't the same Silver City that got me hooked on comics lo those many years ago. Quite the opposite. The name is the same, but the location and the owners are different.
Still, the shop was...okay. Probably worse than Comics Nirvana for clutter, and they only had two shelves of new comics, mostly DC and Marvel. They seem to be dealing mostly in back issues and trades these days. Ah well. At least their clerk was nice. She was explaining the concept of the tpb to an elderly woman looking to buy comics for her grandson and she was very, very patient.
There's only one other place in Columbia that specializes in comics, a hole-in-the-wall place called Scratch-n-Sniff. If I remember correctly, I think it was up around the USC campus. I went in a few times during my misspent youth, and it was mostly back issues even then. Still, in all fairness, I should probably give it a look.
