May. 16th, 2016 05:21 pmI got up this morning and head breakfast. It was a slapdash affair: 2 avocados, a boiled egg, a spoonful of sour cream, a cup of bulletproof coffee.
I couldn't help but think, "It's two days now, since Olivia died. And I'm drinking tea and eating avocados."
It felt strange.
Not wrong, or sad, exactly.
Just strange.
So, to get myself out of my funk, I climbed in my car and went to Southeast Salvage. They didn't have anything I was interested in, so I popped into Ollie's, which was next door. There, I found too many things I would have liked to buy: a crockpot, a blender, some fluffy bath towels, a nice new bath rug, etc.
But I didn't buy anything. Mainly because I cook for one, so, really, how much use would I get out of that crockpot? And the blender would be nice, but I've never really been a smoothie person.
So, again, I did not buy anything.
As I was pulling away from the store, I noticed a new Save-A-Lot in the mall. I've never been in SAL, but I've heard about 'em. So, I decided to check 'em out. I was surprised they had a produce section at all, but as for the rest of the story? Eh. I was not impressed. I can get better prices on the stuff I buy at Bi-Low and/or Dollar General.
So, once again, I left emptyhanded.
I did stop at the grocery store on the way home. Bought some avocados, some sour cream, a bag of broccoli/cauliflour rosettes, some Blue Cheese Dressing, some sausage, some whipping cream. Good stuff. I think I'll have the broccoli w/Blue Cheese tonight for supper, and maybe some of the sausage for protein.
Home now, writing this, Olivia's absence haunting the back of my thoughts. It's going to take a while for me not to think of her, but that's normal.
And, as awful as it sounds, life does go on after us.
