Happy Birthday to Me
Jan. 9th, 2021 09:35 pmToday, I turned 51.
I am now 'in my fifties' as all the young people say.
Ha.
It has been a nice day. I took the day off from the Store and didn't get out of bed until noon. I got dressed, listening to some new Kylie Minogue, then headed out to the door to the Congaree National Forest. I was going to walk the lake trail, but the ground was still so soggy from all the rain we've had lately that I decided to just do the Bluff Trail instead. Even then, most of the way I was walking adjacent to the trail and not on the trail itself, as it was very swampy.
After about an hour, out in nature, I decided I'd had enough and came back to town. Spent the rest of the afternoon visiting the area bookshops. Not really looking for anything specific, just idly questing for maybe some John Mortimer or Terry Pratchett.
I went by the market and grabbed some supper: a hot box of boneless chicken tenders and potato wedges, a small container of mustard potato salad, a slice of carrot cake and a six pack of pale ale.
Came home and checked out Facebook, where many people had wished me happy birthday wishes, not only on my own page, but on the Store's Facebook page as well. :) It was all a bit overwhelming.
Then Jorg came home and brought cupcakes with him that one of the customers had brought in for me. When he came into my bedroom, Shadow came with him, scarfing down a hunk of pizza. But he still jumped on me and demanded cuddles until the pizza was done and then he demanded I take him out and throw the ball for him. So I did.
In the bedroom now, writing this and grateful for the life that I have and the people in it. If this is what it's like being in your 50s, I think I'm going to be good with it.
:)
