"Hurrah for shrinkage!"

Last night was super busy, which is why I didn't get a chance to post.
I was training one of the new employees on the Night Shift. Basically, if you can answer the phone, you can do the job.
It's not exactly brain surgery.
Only thing is, every time I would pause to talk about some other aspect of the work, this employee, Coworker Deb, would start blathering on about her experience in the military or something. Like she was trying to say, "Hey, I served in the army, I can do this job with my arms tied behind my back."
Yeah.
Kinda off-putting.
On other fronts, I'm back to using the 4th hole on my belt. Apparently, my diet/exercise regime is working, and I am now shrinking.

Um. Other stuff. Reading is fun, but I'm having a hard time finding new stuff to read. Went by Ye Olde Bookstore today and picked up a Star Trek book containing AUs. Like, what if Kirk had never been in command of the Enterprise? What if Spock had embraced his human half? Stuff like that. I'm hoping it will bear fruit and recharge my wordbanks. If anyone out there has any recs for fiction, please, share.

Really loved those old ST: TOS books as a kid. Especially the very early Pocket Books in the 80s and Bantam in the 70s. They were more edgy and willing to experiment. Spock as a crazy messiah in a backwards savage planet. Kirk changing genders. A star inside a Dyson sphere a cruel god. Now, I pick up a ST: TOS novel in the bookstore and it reads like it came from a factory mill. Sigh.

Yah, I know. New Adventures by Peter David aren't too bad, but I think a big problem with the books showing TOS or TNG is that the characters aren't allowed to grow or change that much. I was reading the Titan series, following Will Riker's adventures as captain of his own ship, and, at best, the results have been okay. The latest crop of TNG books, though, are completely 'Meh.'
