I've been looking back over my food journal for the last two weeks, trying to assess if not counting calories has been a hindrance or a help.

And, honestly, I think it might be more of a hindrance to weight loss for me than a help.

That, and my continuing struggle with impulse eating. ;<

The week right after my last weigh-in was a bad week. It was my birthday and I let myself go entirely too much. There were three days in a row where I didn't even bother tracking food, calories or protein.

Then there were the nights, this last week, where I binged on chips or cookies or bratwurst. Yes, I binged on a package of bratwurst. *sigh*

And I drank two bottles of wine, but I did that on the Free Day so I'm not counting that. I just felt like I should mention it here, because alcohol metabolizes at a slower rate than most foods.

Looking back at it, out of 14 days, I had 9 days of diet success and 5 days of diet failure. Which, now that I've written it out, doesn't sound so bad.

And the days that I had diet successes were pretty good days. I had a big salad, first one I've had in ages, and lots of veggies. The one area I think I was deficient in was daily protein. I got some protein every day, but I don't think I hit my minimum most days.

So, another thing to address.

Overall, I think I'm going to give the relaxed calorie counting another two weeks and see what happens. If, by the end of the month, I decide I need the greater structure I will go back to it. And, I'll admit, I'm kind of leaning that way anyway.
