Today has been a shit day.
The weather has done a 180 on us. We've gone from a high of negative 5 to a high of almost 40 degrees. The snow has melted, leaving ice slick roads and parking lots behind it. Very annoying.
Went by Ye Olde Comic Shoppe this evening(still on vacation!), and they still didn't have the new stuff out yet. Got so miffed, went by the Other Comic Shop in the mall and picked up a couple of books because they get their shit out on time, yo!
Got Captain Britain & MI13, Fables, Prometheus One-Shot and Take A Chance. Pretty good reads all around, although the art in CB&M13 doesn't make me happy. Pete Wisdom looks like bloody Shang-Chi!
As for Fables, the bit with Mr. Dark riding on his horse, Harbinger, had me humming the theme music from The Wizard of Oz. You know the bit, right? The part where Dorothy's been sucked up the tornado and looks out and sees the Wicked Witch riding her broomstick. Yeah. Try getting that tune out of your head, now!
The Prometheus One-Shot was surprisingly decent, although why the Martian Manhunter's death should have anything to do with Prometheus's continual memory loop is beyond me. Did like the explanation for the less-than-competent Prometheus who's been running around the last few years. Only thing I'm not clear on is whether or not he cut off Shotgun's hands or just knifed him through the palms? That bit was unclear.
Take A Chance is a new miniseries from Dabel Brothers and deals with a female nonsuper vigilante operating in a world suddenly filling up with superhumans. The art's a bit bad at times, and the story is sketchy, but I could see myself buying the second issue to see if it gets any better.
There may or may not be more comics tomorrow. I haven't decided.
And on a side note, while at the mall I noticed several stores have gone out of business. It's been weeks since I've been to the mall, so that was sort of a surprise. I guess the economy really has hit a downturn, hasn't it?
