So, its been a few days since the fire incident. Things have kind of gotten back to normal? Maybe? Anyway, it's like Sunday and Xander went to church, where we got to meet the pastor, Reverend Mills, and have some interaction with the mysterious Fiona Blackpearl. The only thing we learned from Miss Blackpearl is that her brother, Howard, is not a churchgoer. Is that suspicious?
Anyway, Xander returns home and settles in with a book when a raging storm sweeps over the town. The storm is not natural but the byproduct of a storm-elemental's presence; a sort of thunderbird-like entity that strafes the town with lightning. As Xander watches in shock, the glass chimney of the oil lamp he had been reading by shatters, and a flameling is spawned from the lamp flame. It attacks Xander, but he manages to escape down the stairs. His landlord, Mr. Veil, sticks his head out the door of his apartment to see what's going on and Xander rushes him out of the building, just ahead of the flameling. But as Xander is fleeing, the flameling attacks, dealing him a fatal blow, reducing his Health to zero.
* * * * *
Normally, this would not be fatal. With the system I use, if a PC's Health drops to zero, additional damage is tranferred to their Abilities: Cunning, Danger, Fortitude and Sway. It's only when those Abilities are zeroed out that the PC is dead.
But, if I'm honest, I'm a bit tired of Xander Rook. The more I play him, the less I like him. So I'm thinking, he may have just died. And if he's dead, do I continue the Mistwater story with another character? Maybe Mr. Veil, the last person with Xander. Or Kevin West, the former servant at Edgestone House? Or, the mysterious Miss Fiona Blackpearl?
I haven't decided, but I'm leaning toward ending the story and starting another one.
