Started a new solo tonight set in a very Conan-the-Barbarian type world. More swords & sandals than dungeons & dragons.
My PC, Shan Merrik, was the only survivor of a raider attack on the outpost where he lived. Afterwards, he made a harrowing journey to the nearest village. He told the village about the attack and they spread word around the region.
Shan's aunt took him into her home but warned him he should probably move on, as people are saying that he's cursed. Aunt Sharna advises him to sign up with one of the mercenary companies that come through the region in the spring, on recruitment drives.
Initially, Shan decides to stay in the village, but as he's treated as an outsider, he eventually changes his mind. The next spring, he joins the Ibix Company and travels south to the city of Vaven, where he begins training as a warrior.
Nine months into his contract, Ibix Company is sent north to help lay siege to the city of Charrix. This is Shan's first taste of war, and it isn't what he expected. A wizard in Charrix resurrects their fallen soldiers as Burning Undead
After 13 months, the Siege of Charrix ends with the city's surrender. Its leaders and the wizard are executed. Ibix Company returns to Vaven laden with loot.
Later, Shan's mentor, Karn Nova, sends him on a mission: travel to the town of Mirr and retrieve the son of an influential politician. Shan joins a temple caravan heading to the Temple of the North Wind. While traveling, he befriends Brother Urrek and the two defend the caravan from a pair of Fiends. Shan learns the caravan is secretly transporting a holy relic to the Temple.
The rest of the journey to Mirr is uneventful.
