Road trip!

As soon as my laundry is done in the dryer, I'm tossing some clothes in a bag and heading west! I'm sort of aiming for Carmel, CA 'cause I like the name, but if I don't make it all the way to the Pacific I won't be too upset.
So, flist, any advice on things to do, see or avoid?

Carmel is a very cute little town with forest and ocean, so that's pretty much a win. (And you can swing up to Monterrey, which mostly has a famous aquarium and really good taffy.)

Grand Canyon is always worth a look. But other that I'm not well versed in the middle section of the county. ;)
