I am not a fan of Obamacare.
As one of the millions of Americans without health insurance, you would think that I would be, but you would be wrong.
I dislike being required to have health insurance; I dislike the prevailing attitude in America that it's okay to blithely accept a 'handout' from the government simply because it's the government.
So today's ruling by the Supreme Court, upholding a major part of the law, has left me feeling unhappy. It's ironic that this ruling came out today, because I also happen to be sick. I woke up this morning, nauseous and pukey, but am feeling much better now. Well, physically, at least.
The Individual Mandate pisses me off; the penalty for not having insurance pisses me off even more.
Last year, I avoided the penalty. I qualified for the low-income exemption then, I should still qualify for it this year as well.
It still pisses me off.
Obamacare still pisses me off.
Why?
Because the way the law is set up, the only people who genuinely seem to benefit from it are the insurance companies.
If the federal government wants to provide health care, fine. Let 'em. But cut the insurance companies out of the equation.
It would be simple.
Congress passes a law that allows medical providers to recieve an uncapped tax break for every patient they see who submits a simple form at the time service is rendered.
The public gets medical attention and medical providers could actually come out ahead of the game by not having to pay taxes. At all.
The medical providers benefit; the public benefits; the insurance companies could go and fuck off.
Everyone's happy.
