I woke up today just after noon, the taste of wine still in my mouth. I'd gone out last night and seen Rocketman, the Elton John biopic, and afterwards felt the desire for a nice bottle of wine. I grabbed my usual, a pale muscodine, and finished it off before going to bed.
Today, for me, has been a lazy affair. I got up, watched videos on the Internet for a few hours, then took a shower and got dressed. I went upstairs and called J to ask if we needed anything from the store other than garbage bags. Oh! And should I go ahead and throw out those ribs that have been sitting in the oven for the last five days? I was told I should and I could also throw out the moldy bread on top the microwave. Also, J said he wouldn't be home until late tonight. After work he was driving to Sumter to look at 2000 comics.
After I hung up the phone, I idly wondered if this was what it was like to be married to someone? Random calls in the middle of the afternoon, asking about this or that domestic issue. I wouldn't know.
I went off to the grocery store and wandered the perimeter. I thought about buying berries. Everybody says berries are good for you. I don't like berries, so I didn't buy any. Instead, I bought shredded lettuce and ground beef, both discounted because of their sell-by dates, and a bag of oriental vegetables from the freezer. Then the garbage bags and, on a whim, a couple of strawberry kiwi Ice waters.
Back home, I fixed an early supper. Browned the hamburger beef, which produced so much liquid grease it looked like I was fixing a soup. Drained the browned beef, put it back on the stove, added the lettuce and vegetables, then spices and the last of the teryaki sauce. When it was finished, I set it aside, covered in tin foil, for later.
I went outside to read, but the mosquitos were out in force and it was far too muggy. So I came back inside and upstairs to the living room, where I read by the light of a lamp for a couple of hours until I got peckish. Then I ate supper and washed the dishes, including the ones that J had left in the sink from his breakfast that morning.
At seven, I took the garbage and recycling out to the curb. After I finish here, I think I'm going to go up the road to Karatu (or, as I call it, Klatuu), and get a coke and a chocolate bar. Then I'll come home, maybe watch a movie, and go to bed.
