Just got back from a road trip to Seward. Have tonight off and decided, what with the weather being so nice, I'd roll out of town. Nice drive down. I love driving through the mountains at night. No traffic. No idiot tourists in Winnebegos. Just me, the open road and the soundtrack to Once More With Feeling.
I haven't been down to Seward in a while, but it hasn't changed that much. A few shops have closed up since they lost the cruise line business, but other than that the place seems unchanged. Bopped around the downtown a bit this morning, looking for something kitschy for the condo, but didn't see anything I liked. It was all Alaskana crap: moose and bear and shit like that. There used to be this little artist's shop down by the waterfront that made sand-pressed masks, decorated with the flotsom and jetsom that washed ashore. It's gone now, which makes me a bit sad.
Drive back wasn't that bad. Made pretty good time, considering I had to share the road with a bunch of schmucks. Kept having to stop for road work too. The Alaska Department of Highways fails, epicly.
Home now and glad to be back. Considering a movie later this afternoon and then a trip to the bookshop.
