Nostalgia can be awkard as fuck.
I just found an old journal of mine, from way WAY back in the day, when I was a cafe goth. I came across a bunch of flyers and tickets for local bands I used to go and see. Most of them played places like Cafe Moon, but one or two managed to be opening acts at the old 9:30 Club, before vanishing into obscurity.
Some of the band names just make me shake my head: Breaking Babes, Grunting Toward Bethlehem, The Dick Jokers, Not My America, Temple of the Sea. As I recall, vaguely, most of them occupied a musical niche between goth, grunge, post-punk and pop-punk. I think? I'm not sure.
I think I hooked up with the basist from Breaking Babes, but, again, not sure.
Anyway, looking back at it all, having these random memories flash and stir to life after decades, has made me hyperaware of just how fucking awkward I was at that time of my life.
I look back at myself now and I just want to laugh at how cringey I was.
Lordy Lou, save me from the nostalgia rabbit hole.
