Last night, I rented the latest Futurama direct-to-dvd release, The Beast With A Billion Backs. I can't really say anything about the movie without giving away some spoilers, so I'll just say that this movie has a very different tone than the previous one. There's some nice character development among the cast, and the entire concept of Yivo is pretty funny. The ending scenes are a straight-out paraody of POTC: At World's End, with Bender playing a robot pirate fighting a giant space-kraken. If that doesn't get you to go out and check out this movie, I don't think anything else will.
On the Melworks Scale of Movie Love, I'd give Futurama: The Beast With A Billion Backs a solid six out of ten. It's good as a one-off, and could have been funnier, but it does suffer from the dreaded Sophmore Slump. Don't believe me? Go see it yourself. - MEL
