Came in a bit early today and spoke with Supervisor V about work.
Basically, I want to get off the night shift because I just can't deal with the nutjobs on the phone any longer. She seemed receptive and appropriately sympathetic. There was some concern when I mentioned the possibility of my having a meltdown, but I assured her I didn't think that was imminent. Well, not yet at any rate.
I'm not expecting miracles. I don't want the moon. I would just like to get off nights. If the job can work with me on that, that's good. If they can't, or won't, then that's okay too and I can make other arrangements.
I've been practicing asking people "Do you want fries with that?"
Y'know, just in case.
I'm hoping this works out. Now's a good time for some changes. We've got two candidates for the midnight shift, so one of those might be interested in my shift. We're going to be losing at least two, maybe three people off of days in the next few months. I'm up on all the filing and could slide right into a secretary/clerk position with no problem. I'd even be willing to alter my schedule and work a Tuesday through Saturday shift.
I'm willing to take the phones one day a week, I just don't want to have to deal with the insane public so frequently.
Really, I think I'm being very reasonable. I've been working nights for almost 15 years. It's time for a change, one way or another.
But why do I feel like I should be working on my resume with renewed interest?
More later. Hopefully. - MEL
