And now I'm back in Alaska.
I left South Carolina on Wednesday morning, giving my mom a kiss goodbye at the airport and, realizing now, that once I got out of the car I didn't once look back.
That's been pretty typical of my life so far. Keep your eyes ahead and don't get pulled back by nostalgia. I loved growing up in South Carolina and, maybe one day I'll move back there to die, but I don't really think I did any living there.
Sometimes I feel like my life didn't start until I got of that state, until I could free myself from the ties that bind and, eventually, strangle.
The trip back home was a bit bumpy, but generally uneventful. The airline lost my luggage, but it showed up this morning and now I'm wondering how do you get grease stains out of a Samsonite bag???
Driving around Anchorage - Hell! Sitting at this computer! - I realize that I live in a totally different world than the one I grew up in, the one my family still lives in. Anchorage is cold and bright and thriving, while my hometown is warm and dark and wilting away.
But I like them both and I'm grateful for the opportunities that they've given me.
And, I think that's enough introspection for now.
Yeah?
Yeah! - xoxo MEL
