It's been a while since I blathered on about comics here.
Truth of the matter is, that lately I haven't been buying nearly as many as I used to. I've cut way back, less because of finances and more because of irritation with the Big Two.
This last week, I only bought two comics: Proof and Incredible Hercules.
So, you're wondering, what comics am I buying, right?
Well, here's the list of books that I definitely buy: Echo, Fables, Incredible Hercules, Invincible, Proof, PS23, Secret Six, Thorand The Umbrella Academy: Dallas.
I scan most of the mainstream DC and Marvel books, but don't actually buy any of them. And I avoid the Big Event books and tie-ins like the plague.
I was hoping Gail Simone's presence on Wonder Woman might make the character readable, but that hasn't happened. And I am very firmly against DC's fetish for resuscitating Silver Age characters like the Barry Allen Flash and the Hal Jordan Green Lantern.
Outside of the titles listed above, I don't care much for Marvel's current books. They're all a bit too grim for my taste. I read comics as a form of escapism, not to get my face shoved into a plate full of Skrull intestines. Y'know?
Anyway, I suspect that in the future I'll buy even fewer books as increasing prices and crap storylines continue to push me away.
Sad really.
