It's done.
Jun. 21st, 2010 02:25 pmWell, that's over.
Today, I am unemployed.
Well, technically, I was unemployed on Friday. Today, I just went back into the Job of Doom for the farewell party.
It felt weird, being back in the building as a visitor. I felt naked without my lanyard and ID badge, a visitor's badge clipped to my blue jeans.
I got a gold pan from the Job and a card that a bunch of people signed, wishing me well.
It was very sweet.
On Friday, I packed up my desk. It didn't take long. After 21 years, 9 months and 21 days you would have thought I'd have more to show for my time at the Job of Doom.
But my stuff amounted to a blue 3-ring notebook, a desk calender, a cup of change and a bottle of hand lotion.
Right now, I feel pretty good. I think leaving the job was the best thing I could do. This weekend I did have a mild freakout and, just to reassure myself, posted a fake resume on a job site. A day later I got six inquiry emails. So, apparently, I'm marketable.
But I'm not rushing back into work.
I'm going to take some time off.
I'm going to stop and smell the roses.
Do stuff that sounds fun.
This Wednesday, I've got an interview with a local production company hiring extras for television and print ads.
I'm just going to have fun.
Wish me luck. - xoxo MEL
