Today, I went by my local Barnes & Noble and bought a copy of Yours Cruelly, Elvira, the memoir of Cassandra Peterson. It's not even 300 pages long. I started reading it when I got home and just finished it a few moments ago.
Miss Peterson writes in a breezy, straightforward style. She talks about her early life, her career, her personal relationships. What I was unprepared for was her honest recounting of the sexual assaults that she's experienced and the impact they had on her.
The book is eye-opening. Revealing aspects of both the author and the character, Elvira, that I never really thought about.
She's a fighter.
A tough cookie.
And if you're even a casual fan of her work, I'd highly recommend reading the book.
