Went to an adult platform tonight and got hit with this:

Dear user,

As you may know, your elected officials in South Carolina are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website. While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk.

In addition, mandating age verification without proper enforcement gives platforms the opportunity to choose whether or not to comply. As we’ve seen in other states, this just drives traffic to sites with far fewer safety measures in place. Very few sites are able to compare to the robust Trust and Safety measures we currently have in place. To protect children and user privacy, any legislation must be enforced against all platforms offering adult content.

The safety of our users is one of our biggest concerns. We believe that the best and most effective solution for protecting children and adults alike is to identify users by their device and allow access to age-restricted materials and websites based on that identification. Until a real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in South Carolina.

Please contact your representatives before it is too late and demand device-based verification solutions that make the internet safer while also respecting your privacy.

Redtube is rated with RTA label. Parents, you can easily block access to this site. Please read this page for more information.

Fucking assholes.

Yesterday, I drove out to my mom's place. We'd spoken last week and she'd told me that a limb had fallen out of one of the pecan trees in her backyard. I was curious about it and drove out to take a look and discovered that my mother remains a master of understatement.
The 'limb' was about half of the damn tree. It's lying on the ground, propped up on the broken section, or possibly still connected to it. The thing is too big for her saw to cut through and, if I'm being honest, I don't know how you'd cut the thing up without it falling on you. She said she was going to wait a while then call a guy she knows to come out, cut it up and haul it away.
I should point out that the pecan trees in the backyard are about 100 years old, planted by my great-grandmother, and I'm pretty sure they're starting to die. I think all of them probably need to come down, or at least be seriously pruned.
So, there was that.
Then, on the drive home, the actuator in my car started to tick. Again. I had to replace the damn thing three years ago. It costs about $300 with parts and labor. If I take the car in this time, I think I may just tell them to disconnect the damn thing. All it does, as I understand, is direct the flow of air through the vents that you want: face forward, windshield, etc. Anyway, if I turn on the Cabin Recirculator it shuts up the ticking, so that's a stopgap solution.
And this morning, I woke up with no water in the house. Jorg had forgot to pay the water bill. Again. So I had to go outside and turn the water back on, take a shower, then go pay the $134 water bill.
And on top of all of that, Mercury is in fucking retrograde. Again.
It's like we just can't catch a break.
