So, I went to the urologist this past Monday to discuss the stone situation. X-rays taken last week confirmed that it was still there, but there didn't seem to be any more stones waiting in the wings. Or, at least, none big enough to show up on the x-ray.
We will not be doing shockwave lithotripsy. Instead, this Tuesday I will be going back to the hospital for another outpatient procedure. The doctor thinks that my urethra is dilated enough now that they can get the stone out via urethroscopy. The good news is that they can laser the stone and remove it in one go. Then, the week after, I get the stent removed. They offer nitrous oxide for that and I'm taking them up on it.
I don't like things that are scary and painful.
I'm not worried about the procedure. It's the same one they did after the ER. I'm not looking forward to the aftermath, to bloody urine and the burning sensation when I pee.
Nor am I looking forward to the hospital bill. Since I don't have insurance, and apparently don't qualify for state Medicaid, I have to pay out of pocket.
This is probably going to beggar me.
That bothers me.
I don't live a lavish lifestyle by any stretch of the imagination, but I've always had money in the bank.
I may not, after all of this is over and done with.
But, on the bright side, if that happens, I'll probably be able to qualify for assistance.
Hrm.
